Hoyas Take Series Finale Over St. John’s

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team defeated St. John's 6-4 Sunday afternoon in its final game of its series with the Red Storm in Queens, New York. The Hoyas are now 15-27 overall and 8-10 in BIG EAST play, while St. John's falls to 17-25 overall and 6-12 in conference play.

Head Coach Pat Conlan
  • "Today was a gritty team win. After two tough losses, we really needed the win. Kayla Dunn came up big in relief and shut down the St. John's offense while Sophia Scarangella came through again in a huge pinch hitting situation to give us the lead. I'm proud of the team's effort today."
How it Happened
  • Mae Forshey put the Hoyas on the board in her first at-bat of the game, sending Cameron Kondo home and moving the Hoyas ahead by two to finish the top of the first.
  • St. John's answered in the bottom of the first, working its way around the bases and tallying four runs.
  • Both teams had a quick three outs to get through the second inning, letting the 4-2 score stand.
  • With bases loaded in the third, Sophia Scarangella doubled to send three Hoyas home to retake the lead and bring the score to 5-4.
  • The fourth inning was scoreless for both teams, and Kondo stole home in the top of the fifth to tack on another for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Red Storm was unable to answer through the rest of the game, and the final score would stand at 6-4 to give the Hoyas the win.
Of Note
  • Forshey led the way for the Hoyas offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs including a solo home run in the first inning marking her fifth of the season.
  • Scarangella's lone at bat resulted in a double and three RBIs, while Kayla Dunn was 1-for-3 and Kondo hit 1-for-1 with two runs scored.
  • In the circle, Dunn took the win, letting up only two hits in 6.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts.
