Hoyas Defeat Butler in Game One of BIG EAST Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team put together an all-around performance defeating the Butler University Bulldogs 12-3 on Friday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana. With the victory, the Hoyas improved to 16-28 overall and 8-10 in BIG EAST Conference play.

  • "The Hoyas came to play today. We executed in all phases of the game, and I'm proud of the team for how well they competed today."
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas opened the scoring in the first inning when a Butler error allowed Kayla Dunn to reach first and Cameron Kondo to cross the plate.
  • The Bulldogs (15-30, 8-11 BIG EAST) answered in the bottom of the inning on a home run to left field.
  • Georgetown added two more in the top of the third as Morgan Zamora hit a two-run blast over the left field wall allowing Kondo to score her second run of the afternoon and making it 3-1.
  • The Blue & Gray worked around the bases in the fourth inning resulting in a single from Claire Turner bringing Dayanara Campos home. The Bulldogs would answer with two in the bottom of the frame on another home run.
  • Singles from Mae Forshey and Sophia Scarangella would bring in two more runs in the top of the fifth as the Hoyas were active on offense.
  • The big inning came in the top of the sixth beginning with a fielder's choice by Zamora allowing two runs to score on miscues by the Butler defense.
  • Forshey would follow that up with a double to right field bringing Zamora home, and Dunn grounded out to second but allowed pinch runner Brittany Lew to score making it 10-3.
  • The offense continued to work in the seventh as GU loaded the bases and Gianna Sciullo stole home on a strikeout before a long single to right center by Forshey allowed Kiaris Alvarado Rojas to scamper home resulting in the 12-3 final.
Of Note
  • Forshey led the way at the plate going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while Zamora was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and a trio of RBIs.
  • Kondo managed a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with three runs scored, while Scarangella and Turner tallied RBIs on one hit apiece for the Hoyas.
  • Julia Parker took the win in the circle managing three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.
  • Dunn got the save tallying one strikeout in three innings pitched.

  • The Hoyas will continue the BIG EAST Conference series at Butler University this weekend. Saturday's contest will begin at 1 p.m., and Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for noon.
