Hoyas Fall to Butler in Close Contest

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team fell 5-3 to the Butler University Bulldogs on Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana in the second of a three-game series in BIG EAST Conference play. With the loss, the Hoyas move to 16-29 overall and 9-11 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • Both teams weren't able to get any runs home in the first two innings, but Butler came out strong in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs loaded the bases and proceeded to draw back-to-back walks to score two. They then singled home a run following the walks, and later hit a sacrifice fly to bring home another, giving Butler a 4-0 lead early.
  • The Hoyas were able to string together baserunners in the top of the fifth inning, loading up the bases for Morgan Zamora who plated a run on a groundout, cutting the deficit to three.
  • However, Butler was able to get another run home in the bottom of the sixth, as an RBI single made the score 5-1 heading into the final inning.
  • The Blue & Gray would not go down easy, loading the bases on three singles in the top of the seventh inning, which led to Zamora smacking a two-run single to left field, making the score 5-3.
  • With the tying run at the plate the Hoyas were unable to capitalize at the end, and Butler would hang on and win by a score of 5-3.
Of Note
  • Zamora accounted for all of the Hoya RBIs in the contest, going 1-3 with two RBI, as well as a key sacrifice groundout to score one.

  • In the circle, Brooke Plonka went 2.1 innings with four earned runs for the Hoyas and being tagged with the loss.
