Hoyas Defeat Butler on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (7-10, 2-4 BE) held a commanding lead and defeated Butler (5-10, 2-5 BE) 21-5 on senior day. The Hoyas were led by Erin Bakes with six goals.

"I'm really happy for the seniors," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "Even though they didn't have the season that they wanted they finished off really strong."

How It Happened
  • The Hoyas dominated the first quarter with a six-goal scoring run. Katie Goldsmith landed the first goal at the 12:54 mark. Cate Parsells earned back-to-back goals in under a minute. Butler finished off the quarter by landing a free-position goal at the 2:05 mark. 
  • Emma Gebhardt launched the Hoyas offense with a goal in the opening 30 seconds of the second quarter. GU went on a three-goal scoring run, landing each goal a minute apart. Butler ended the Hoyas' run with a goal at 10:46. GU went on another five-goal-scoring run led by Bakes with two. The Hoyas led the Bulldogs 15-2 at halftime. 
  • Bakes started the third quarter with her fifth goal of the contest at the 14:24 mark. Olivia Rubin followed with a goal at 9:20. The Hoyas held the Bulldogs scoreless and limited them to two shots in the third. GU capped off the quarter with 18 seconds remaining with a goal from Neely Holt
  • Butler got off to a quick start in the fourth with a goal at the 14:19 mark. The Hoyas and the Bulldogs exchanged a pair of goals before the Hoyas followed with back-to-back goals. Butler landed on the last goal at the 2:46 mark but the Blue & Gray would earn the commanding 21-5 victory on Cooper Field. 
Of Note
  • Bakes led the scoring with six goals, Gebhardt added three and Kylie Hazen, Parsells and Rubin each tallied two. Six other Hoyas contributed one goal apiece. 
  • Maley Starr and Hazen led the squad with six draw controls each.
  • Tatum Geist, Nicole Massimino and Gebhardt each earned two caused turnovers.
  • GU outshot Butler 40-14, holding the Bulldogs to just two shots in the third and four shots in the fourth.
