WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team won a pair of games in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. GU took the commanding victory in the first game 7-1, before a walk-off double sealed the 5-4 victory in the second contest of the afternoon. With the wins, GU improves to 10-23 on the season and 5-6 in BIG EAST play.

- "We had a fantastic day offensively. We swung the bats very well in game one, and in game two, they had us off balance but we were able to put together a few runs which got us on the board. There were two outstanding pitching outings today from both Kayla (Dunn) and Julia (Parker) and they gave us opportunities to win a ball game."
Game 1
Georgetown 7, Providence 1
- Georgetown had chance in the bottom of the second with bases loaded, but could not generate a run.
- The Friars struck first (10-22, 3-11 BIG EAST) walking in a run in the top of the third, PC had bases loaded, but the Hoya defense got out of the jam to allow just one run.
- GU answered in the bottom of the inning as a double from Mae Forshey to left field allowed Cameron Kondo to cross the plate and tie the game at one.
- A pair of homers in the bottom of the fourth would break the game open for the Blue & Gray as Kacy Lyman hit a solo shot to left center before Morgan Zamora managed a three-run bomb over the center field wall to make it 5-1.
- Providence would threaten once again in the top of the fifth with bases loaded, before Julia Parker would get the strikeout to get out of the inning unscathed.
- In the bottom of the sixth, GU added two more as Forshey scampered home on a passed ball and a single from Gabby Park with runners on second and third allowed Kayla Dunn to score putting the Hoyas ahead 7-1 which would stand as the final.
Of Note
- Forshey led the way for the Blue & Gray with a 2-for-4 performance, a run and an RBI.
- Zamora was 1-for-3 with a trio of RBIs and a run scored.
- Lyman and Dunn went 1-for-3 on the day and Lyman managed the RBI, while Park was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
- In the circle, Parker took the win with an impressive seven strikeouts to her credit as she went the distance.
Game 2
Georgetown 5, Providence 4
- A home run from the leadoff batter put the Friars on top in the first. The quick pitching change in the first with bases loaded resulted in three-consecutive strikeouts by Dunn to get out of the inning only down one.
- A sacrifice fly to right field from Kondo in the second inning allowed Brittany Lew across the plate to knot it up.
- PC managed a run in the fourth and a two-run homer in the top of the fifth to take the 4-1 advantage as GU struggled to get the bats going.
- In the bottom of the fifth, a double to left center from Dunn started the rally as Forshey scampered home on the throw.
- Georgetown tacked on another in the sixth as a sacrifice bunt from Zamora allowed Lyman across the plate to make it a one-run game at 4-3.
- It would all come down to the bottom of the seventh as pinch runner Gianna Sciullo worked her way around the bases to get in scoring position before a double to center from Lew allowed Sciullo home to tie it at four.
- Kiaris Alvarado Rojas was walked on the next at bat before Lyman stepped up and hit a shot to center field allowing Lew to easily score for the walk off double to win 5-4.
Of Note
- Lyman was dominant at the plate going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Lew was also impressive hitting 1-for-3 as well as tallying two runs and an RBI.
- Dunn went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Kondo was 1-for-1 with an RBI to her credit.
- In the circle, Dunn had quite a game with eight strikeouts in 33 batters faced for the win.
