WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team lost to the DePaul University Blue Demons 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game BIG EAST Conference series at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. With the loss, GU drops to 16-31 on the season and 9-13 in BIG EAST play.

How it Happened

• The first two innings were quiet until both teams began to threaten in the third.
• DePaul (16-30, 8-15 BIG EAST) had runners on first and second with one out before the Hoya defense could get the last two outs.
• In the bottom of the inning, the Blue & Gray led off with a pair of singles before an error loaded the bases. Mae Forshey stepped up and hit a long fly ball to left field allowing Claire Turner to cross the plate making it 1-0.
• The GU defense made quick work of the Blue Demons in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the inning, a catch in foul territory resulting in a double play ended any Hoya momentum.
• DePaul took the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs, and then added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh as the GU offense struggled to get going.
• Georgetown would never find the answer falling 5-1.

Hoya Notes

• Georgetown had four hits in the game with Forshey, Dayanara Campos, Kacy Lyman and Turner all registering one.
• Forshey tallied one RBI, and Turner had GU's lone run scored.
• In the circle, Brooke Plonka pitched all seven innings with five strikeouts on the afternoon.
