TOWSON, Md. – Georgetown University's field hockey team opened its 2023 campaign with a 3-2 loss against Davidson in the season opener on Friday afternoon at the Towson Field Hockey Complex. The Hoyas fall to 0-1 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 1-0.

How it Happened
- Georgetown jumped on the board first, scoring just 5:03 into the game. Towne found the back of the cage, collecting and redirecting a feed from Elena Perez Alejandro that was initially broken up by the Davidson defense who failed to clear the ball.
- The Hoyas made it a 2-0 game exactly seven minutes later as Suko fed the ball through the box, had it redirected by Towne and scored by Johnson to beat the Wildcat keeper far side.
- Davidson began to mount a comeback in the second quarter and scored twice in the final six minutes of the half to tie things up at 2-2 going into halftime.
- Teitz (0-1) had four saves in the opening half, including three in the first quarter.
- Davidson had seven penalty corner attempts in the first half, with the Hoyas successfully defending six of them.
- The Wildcats took a 3-2 lead with four minutes remaining in the third quarter on a penalty stroke.
- In the final frame, the Hoyas battled hard down the stretch and earned three penalty corners in the final 12 minutes of action but were unable to convert.
Davidson Notes
- Hannah Merritt, Sarah Minges and Sib Naaktgeboren each scored lone goals for the Wildcats.
- Celie Constantine, Macy Curtis and Bella Worthington were credited with assists.
- Cato Roell (1-0) had two saves in the win.
