WASHINGTON – The No. 13/14 Hoyas drew No. 2/2 Stanford 1-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the tie, the Hoyas move to 4-0-3 on the season while Stanford moves to 6-0-1 on the year.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"Obviously it is a bit heartbreaking at the end to see the victory slip through our fingers so late in the game. You have to give Stanford credit though, the kid stepped up and took a world class free kick and she couldn't have placed it any better. It makes the result a little more tolerable than if we were to have made a mistake or given up a soft goal, so have to give Stanford credit there. Overall, I thought we were very good. We scored a good goal off a set piece early, but the game was very back and forth. Then late in the game as they started to throw people forward, we kept catching them in transition and we had a couple two vs. two or three vs. three where with just a better pass or a little more power we could have gotten a second goal which is what happened when Henley nearly scored late in the half. As much as the girls are disappointed now at the finish, I think tonight they will realize that result wise, it was a great result for the team."
