Georgetown Women’s Golf Wins William & Mary Invitational

WASHINGTON – With an eight-stroke lead on the field, the Georgetown University women's golf team won the William & Mary Invitational on Tuesday following 54 holes played over two days. Five of the seven Hoyas competing finished among the top 10 and all were among the top 30 on the par-72, 6,000-yard course at the Kingsmill Resort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Megan Gormley was the top GU finisher as she tied for second with a three-round total of 4-over 220 (74-75-71). The captain's 1-under 71 was fueled by three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7 to go along with 13 pars.
  • Morgan Smith, competing in her first collegiate event, closed the day at 7-over 223 (75-73-75) to finish eighth overall. Smith tallied four birdies on the day, two apiece on the front and back nine to go along with eight pars.
  • Vilda Westh Blanc finished the three-round tournament at 8-over 224 (75-75-74), good enough to tie for ninth in the field. Westh Blanc, competing in her first collegiate tournament, tallied a trio of birdies on the day to go with 11 pars.
  • Claire Chen also tallied a two-day score of 13-over 229 (80-73-76), tying for 19th overall. Playing consistently through the majority of the round, Chen managed a squad-best 16 pars on the day.
  • Angela Lee closed the three-round tournament with a 14-over 230 (76-74-80) to finish in a tie for 26th. The sophomore managed 13 pars on the day, matching Gormley in that category.
  • Jiaying Lai, playing as an individual, finished fourth with a 5-over 221 (71-76-74). The freshman tallied a trio of birdies in the final round.
  • Georgia Ruffolo, playing as an individual, closed the tournament at 6-over 222 (75-72-75) and managed 14 pars on the day to go along with a birdie on hole 16.
 
OF NOTE
  • This is the first tournament win since the 2023 Lady Bison Invitational in April.
  • The Hoyas were the only squad with five individuals to finish among the top 10.
