Field Hockey Edged 3-2 by Quinnipiac

TOWSON, Md. – Georgetown University's field hockey team dropped a close BIG EAST battle 3-2 with visiting Quinnipiac at the Towson Field Hockey Complex Friday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 1-9 on the season and 0-3 in league play while the Bobcats improve to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST action.

  • Sophie Towne led the Hoyas with a goal and an assist on the day.
  • Elena Leahy scored her first career goal and Emma van der Veen notched an assist.
  • Making just her second career start, Ella Fahey collected 16 saves after making 17 last week at UConn.
How it Happened
  • Georgetown took an early lead just 3:36 into the game as Towne redirected a feeding pass from van der Veen for the score.
  • Quinnipiac evened things up just three minutes later.

  • Quinnipiac made it 2-2 at the 21:45 mark in the second, knotting the game going into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, neither team could find the back of the cage until the Bobcats scored off a rebound with two minutes to play.

  • Sophia Pompeo, Emilia Massarelli and Olivia Howard each had a goal for the Bobcats.
  • Lucia Pompeo was credited with an assist.
