Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hoyas and Rams Play to a Draw

WASHINGTON – The No. RV/12 Georgetown University men's soccer team saw a three-goal lead be matched by the Fordham University Rams at Shaw Field on Monday morning as the teams played to a 3-3 draw. With the tie, the Hoyas moved to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Rams went to 2-0-2 for the year.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "You have to give Fordham a ton of credit, they were down 3-0 away from home and they made plays and scrapped three goals. That being said, it's a hugely disappointing result for us, the guys didn't finish the job. It's a hot day, it's the second game in a weekend and they thought they had it won, but goals change momentum. The disappointment collectively is that we switched off at moments as a team and they made us pay. Against good teams, if you switch off they'll punish you and I think that was a good lesson for the guys today."
How it Happened
  • Fordham had the first shot go wide, but from that point on the Hoyas possessed, with a number of dangerous chances.
  • The Blue & Gray kept pushing and activity in front of the Ram goal resulted in a shot from Kyle Linhares hitting the crossbar.
  • On the counter, senior goalkeeper Ryan Schewe was forced to jump to make the save to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the 27th minute, senior Trevor Burns subbed into the game and immediately hit a perfect corner into the box which found the head of junior Max Jennings rising above the crowd and into the net to make it 1-0.
  • With five minutes left in the first, Burns passed it to junior Kieran Sargeant who took it to the endline before crossing it for a charging Cole Parete who finished the shot to make it 2-0 at the half.
  • It only took five minutes into the second half for GU to add another as the second ball off of a set play on a corner went to Linhares who lofted it to the back post. It was right to the head of sophomore Zach Zengue for the 3-0 goal.
  • Fordham would answer back in the 52nd and 59th minutes to come within a goal as the Hoyas had to reset.
  • The Rams kept Georgetown on its back foot and the game almost changed in the 71st minute when Schewe came out and Jennings was forced to fly across the line to stop a shot keeping the Hoyas on top.
  • In the waning seconds of the match, Fordham never gave up and managed to find the equalizer on a header with 10 ticks on the clock as 3-3 stood as the final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot Fordham 20-16 as the Hoyas had 12 shots on goal, while the Rams tallied six.
  • GU was awarded six corner kicks to Fordham's two in the game.
  • Schewe took the draw in the net with three saves for the day.
  • Jenning's, Parete's and Zengue's goals were the first of their careers on the Hilltop.
