VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost a tough one to the Villanova University Wildcats 53-51 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 12-4 on the season and 2-3 in league play, while the Wildcats improve to 10-5 for the year and 3-1 in the conference.
Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney
- "It was a tough game, and Villanova found a way to win. But we learned that you have to come with it every night in this league. This is one of, if not the best conference in the country and we need to be up for the fight. Opportunities are always given, but the win needs to be earned. We have to take the opportunities that we are presented with and we have to learn to do that. To fight through adversity and to be tough enough to fight through to win. To play Georgetown basketball regardless of what's going on. And we're going to get there, I'm confident that we will."
How it Happened
- The teams traded triples to begin the contest before a putback from junior Brianna Scott gave the Hoyas the 8-6 lead.

- A triple from Ransom put the Hoyas back on top before VU scored a pair from beyond the arc to make it 27-23 at the half.
- Villanova held the Hoyas off despite some big defensive stops by the Blue & Gray, and Georgetown would cut it to five at the 1:22 mark on a layup in traffic from Scott.
- The Wildcats answered on the other end leading 40-33 at the end of the third.
- With VU leading by six, the Georgetown defense held the 'Cats scoreless for the rest of regulation and went on a run culminating with a jumper by Graceann Bennett to tie the game at 44 and send it into overtime.
- In the extra period, the lead would go back and forth until there were 19 seconds to go as Villanova's Lucy Olsen converted the and one.
