WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell to the No. 12/15 UConn Huskies 83-55 on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 12-3 on the season and 2-2 in league play, while the Huskies improve to 12-3 for the year and 4-0 in the conference.
Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney
- "Kudos to UConn and Coach Geno, they did a great job. We were focusing on transition defense and limiting on ball turnovers and they didn't allow us to do that at a high level. The fight was there, we just needed to tighten up on a couple things as we go through the rest of BIG EAST play."
How it Happened
- Georgetown jumped out to an early lead as the play of graduate student Graceann Bennett kept the Hoyas right there.
- A jumper from sophomore Victoria Rivera gave the Blue & Gray the 8-7 advantage and sparked an 8-0 run including triples by junior Ariel Jenkins and senior Kelsey Ransom to make it 14-7 in favor of the Hoyas.
- UConn answered right back and closed out the quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 19-14 at the end of the first.
- It was Ransom who pulled GU within five on two occasions early in the second quarter, however, the Huskies got hot from beyond the arc and began to pull away.
- Late in the quarter, the Hoyas posted an 11-3 run including five points from graduate student Alex Cowan to make it 47-35 at the half.
- A 3-pointer by Ransom cut the lead to nine, 47-38, to begin the second half, however, UConn answered with a 14-3 run.
- The Huskies made it 68-43 to end the third.
- A comeback would not come for the Blue & Gray as Georgetown eventually fell, 83-55.

- Bennett led the way for the Hoyas with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double.
