No. 17 Hoyas Shut Out Seton Hall

WASHINGTON - The No. 17 Georgetown University men's soccer team blanked the Seton Hall University Pirates 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Shaw Field. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-3-4 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST play, while the Pirates drop 9-3-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in the league.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "It was a really good performance by the guys, we're happy to get another shutout. Obviously the red card changed the dynamic of the game, but we didn't concede a lot of chances against a really talented team so we'll take three really important points and now look forward to Villanova on Wednesday."
How it Happened
  • Georgetown dominated the possession early, as the Hoyas went down the sidelines looking to attack the Pirate defense.
  • The Hoyas had a flurry of shots from close range, just 20 minutes into the contest as SHU keeper Matias Molina came up with a pair of saves to keep it scoreless.
  • The game was physical as one of the Pirates received his second yellow card in just the 22nd minute resulting in SHU playing a man down the remainder of the contest.
  • The first goal for the Blue & Gray came in the 32nd minute when a shot from Eric Howard was saved. The rebound went to Cole Parete who found Jack Heaps near the post who sent it back in to put the Hoyas on top 1-0 which would stand at the half.
  • Despite the man down, Seton Hall looked to equalize early in the second, however, a second Hoya goal quieted the attack.
  • In the 57th minute, the Hoyas were able to put another on the scoreboard when a long pass from Joe Buck found a streaking Marlon Tabora who got ahead of the defense. He was 1v1 with Molina and shot to the near post to make it 2-0.
  • From that point on, GU dominated the contest resulting in the 2-0 final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot Seton Hall, 17-2, and had eight shots on goal to the Pirates' one.
  • The Hoyas were awarded two corners to SHU's two as well.
  • Manske took the win and shutout in the net with one save in the game, while Molina had six.
  • This marked GU's ninth shutout of the season, as the squad has only given up eight goals on the year.
