Georgetown Football Hosts Bucknell

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team (4-3, PL 1-1) returns to the Hilltop to take on Patriot League rival Bucknell (3-4, PL 1-0).  Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Cooper Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are coming off of a 38-28 road loss to Patriot League opponent Colgate last Saturday. 
  • Against the Raiders, GianCarlo Rufo led the defense with 13 tackles (10 solo, 3 assists). 
  • Last weekend Jimmy Kibble led the Hoyas with two touchdowns. The junior also led receivers with five catches for 128 yards.
  • Kicker Patrick Ryan earned his fourth Patriot League Weekly Honorable Mention of the season after going  4-4 in PATs and punting four times for 172 yards.This season, Ryan is 5-7 in field goals and 21-22 in PATs. 
  • Defensive lineman Cooper Blomstrom leads the league with 10.5 TFLs and six sacks 
  • The Blue & Gray's defense leads the league with an average of 22.1 points against per game. GU also leads in sacks (21) and interceptions (9).
  • Jimmy Kibble leads Patriot League receivers with 587 receiving yards. The junior has also tallied three touchdowns, including two last weekend against Colgate.
  • Quarterback Danny Lauter has thrown 139 completions for 1521 yards and nine touchdowns. 
  • Georgetown is third in the FCS with 21 sacks (average of 3 per game). 
  • Naieem Kearney leads the Blue & Gray's ground game with six rushing touchdowns. The running back has rushed for 313 yards on 61 attempts.
  • Freshman defensive lineman Isaac Saffold joined 29 other players as part of the 2024 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List, which is presented to the national freshman of the year in college football's Division I subdivision, as announced on Wednesday.
ABOUT THE BISON
  • Bucknell is coming off of their second straight loss last weeked. The Bison fell 34-21 at home to Cornell. 
  • Freshman running back Tariq Thomas earned his third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor on Monday, and on Wednesday he was one of 30 players named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List.
  • Against Cornell, Gavin Willis recorded a career-high 19 tackles and is now second in the Patriot League in tackles per game (10.1).
  • TJ Cadden recorded two punt return touchdowns with a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown at Lehigh and now leads the nation in return touchdowns. He also ranks seventh in kickoff return average (28.8) and fifth in punt return average (16.1). 
  • Quarterback Ralph Rucker IV is in his second season leading the Bison offense after transferring from Oklahoma. Rucker missed last week's game against Cornell with an injury, but in 16 games he has thrown 117 completions for 1266 yards and 11 touchdowns. 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Georgetown and Bucknell will meet for the 36th time in program history. The Hoyas are 14-20-1 against the Bison. 
  • The Hoyas earned a 50-47 overtime victory on the road against the Bison last season. Kibble set a program record for longest reception with a 95-yard touchdown catch.
  • In last season's win over Bucknell, The Hoyas' defense totaled five sacks for a loss of 32 yards and 13 tackles for a loss of 56 yards. The defense also picked up two interceptions, one forced fumble, six broken-up passes and three quarterback pressures.
