Field Hockey Tops Quinnipiac 2-1 in Overtime

WASHINGTON – Playing its first overtime game since 2022, Georgetown University's field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory on the road at Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas improve to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in league play while the Bobcats fall to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Elena Perez Alejandro led the Hoyas with a goal and an assist. Her goal was the game-winner 3:03 into overtime.

Quinnipiac jumped on the board early, scoring just 2:16 into the game. The Bobcats would hold GU to just one shot in the opening half en route to a 1-0 lead at the break.

Georgetown came out strong in the second half, scoring just 3:32 into the third quarter. Riley Fitzgerald netted the goal for the Hoyas, redirecting a pass from Perez Alejandro and Lily Jamison off of a penalty corner.

A would-be goal by the Hoyas with 2:41 remaining in the fourth quarter was overturned following a video review, pushing the game into overtime. In the extra frame, Perez Alejandro came up big on both ends of the field, breaking up an open-field one-on-one chance of a Quinnipiac player on the defensive end while scoring the game-winner as well.

In goal, Ella Fahey had five saves in the win.
