WASHINGTON - The No. 19 Georgetown University men's soccer team closed out nonconference action with a scoreless draw against the UMBC Retrievers on Tuesday evening in Baltimore, Maryland at Retriever Soccer Park. With the tie, the Hoyas move to 5-3-4 overall, while the Retrievers become 4-4-4 on the year.

Head Coach Brian WieseÂ
- "It was a lot of the same tonight. UMBC is one of the most dangerous, fun, attacking teams in the country and us coming in and getting a shutout is something we should be happy about. Luca Ulrich made some key saves, which was really important. But on the other side of the ball, we generated about a half dozen match-winning moments that we didn't convert. We have a lot to be happy with, but there is a lot of frustration that we didn't come out with a win. We've had some good performances on the road, and we have another tough game against UConn on Saturday that we're looking forward to."
How it Happened
- UMBC had a look early that missed, but then it was Georgetown that took control as a shot from junior Max Viera hit the crossbar and then a minute later, freshman Mitchell Baker's close-range shot was saved by Retriever keeper Emigdio Lopez.
- The Hoyas continued to push, forcing Lopez into two more saves on shots from senior Blaine Mabie and Viera.
- With five minutes to go, a chest from sophomore Jack Heaps looked to be a goal, but Lopez denied the Hoyas again to make it 0-0 at the break.
- Georgetown searched for the go-ahead goal and thought they had it on two occasions as one was called offsides and Lopez got his fingertips on another shot to push it just wide.
- As the minutes ticked away, UMBC began to gain momentum, but senior Luca Ulrich was a wall for the Blue & Gray.
- The goalkeeper came up with some big stops late to keep the Retrievers at bay including a series with 8:30 to go that was two quick stops including a kick save.
- Despite the efforts, the Hoyas would not find the goal as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Of Note
- Georgetown outshot UMBC, 17-11, and had six shots on goal to the Retrievers' four.
- The Hoyas were awarded seven corners to UMBC's one.
- Ulrich took the tie and shutout in the net with four saves in the game, while Lopez had six.
