Georgetown Hits the Road to Visit Seton Hall

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hits the road for a matchup at Seton Hall on Sunday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Prudential Center and the game will be broadcast on FS1. The Blue & Gray enters Sunday's contest with a 9-2 record overall and a 1-0 mark in league action following an 81-57 win over Creighton on Wednesday to open BIG EAST play.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Wednesday, the Hoyas defeated the Creighton Bluejays 81-57 at Capital One Arena. Micah Peavy stuffed the stat sheet tallying 20 points and game highs of eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals. Jayden Epps recorded 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting and a 5-for-6 effort from behind the arc. Curtis Williams Jr. came off the bench and notched a season-best 12 points. In the first start of his career, Caleb Williams matched Peavy's eight boards to lead the Hoyas on the glass. GU shot 55.0% (33-60) from the field while holding the Bluejays to 39.6% (21-53) shooting. The Hoyas outrebounded the Bluejays 39-25 and forced 16 CU turnovers on 12 steals.
  • Epps leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures, averaging 16.0 ppg, good enough to rank ninth in the BIG EAST. Thomas Sorber follows up, chipping in 14.8 ppg, followed by Peavy (14.0) and Malik Mack (12.3). All four rank among the top 30 in scoring in the BIG EAST.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass grabbing 8.0 rpg to rank second in the league, followed by Drew Fielder (5.2 rpg) and Peavy (4.7 rpg).
  • Mack and Peavy pace the offence, dishing out 4.3 apg apiece.
  • Peavy ranks third in the country and leads the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 3.18 pockets per game.
  • Defensively, the team ranks second in the league and is tied for 20th nationally in steals per game (9.9). The Hoyas are forcing opponents to commit 15.60 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the conference.
  • Sorber has three double-doubles to his name, tied for third in the league.
  • For his efforts in a win at Syracuse last Saturday, Epps earned BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors on Monday for the first time in his career. The honor marks the first time since December 16, 2019 (Mac McClung) a Georgetown student-athlete has earned the accolade.
 
ABOUT THE PIRATES
  • Despite a career-best game from Isaiah Coleman, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to Villanova 79-67 in its opening game of BIG EAST play and enters Sunday's game at 5-7 overall with a 0-1 mark in league action. Dylan Addae-Wusu added 15 points while Coleman's nine rebounds led the Pirates on the glass. Scotty Middleton paced the offense on three assists as the squad shot 39.0% (23-59) for the game while the Wildcats shot 55.3% (26-47) from the floor.
  • Coleman leads a pair of Pirates in double figures, averaging 12.9 ppg followed by Chaunce Jenkins, who is averaging 11.7 ppg.
  • Coleman's 4.6 rpg leads SHU on the glass, followed by Jenkins (4.1 rpg) and Addae-Wusu (3.7 rpg).
  • Garwey Dual paces the offense, dishing out 2.9 apg.
  • The Hall leads the BIG EAST in scoring defense, limiting its opponents to a mere 61.6 ppg.
  • Shaheen Holloway is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. He boasts a 47-35 record with the Pirates and a 111-89 overall record.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH SETON HALL
  • Sunday's game will be the 121st all-time meeting between the two teams dating back to 1909.
  • Georgetown leads the all-time series 61-59 but the Pirates have won the last seven matchups. The last win for the Blue & Gray was a 66-58 win at MSG on March 12, 2021 in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals. 
  • The Hoyas own a 23-34 record against the Pirates on the road.
  • This will be the 27th time Head Coach Ed Cooley will face SHU in his career, owning a 12-14 record against the Pirates all time. This will be the seventh time Cooley faces Holloway with a 3-3 split in the first six meetings.
