Hoyas Defeat Towson 13-5


TOWSON, MD. – Seven Hoyas scored in the 13-5 victory over Towson University at Tiger Field. Georgetown advances to (2-0) while Towson falls to (1-1).  

On the Record
"I am really proud of our effort tonight, especially with it being our first mid-week road game. We played with a lot of poise and effort. We will continue to learn and grow as we prepare for our home opener this Saturday." - said Head Coach Ricky Fried about the win.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless opening six minutes of the first quarter, Towson got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Milana Zizakovic. Four minutes later, Emma Driggs found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. The Tigers and Hoyas exchanged goals to end the quarter 2-2.
  • Katie Goldsmith opened the second quarter with a back-handed goal to earn GU its first lead of the contest and spark an eight-goal scoring run that spanned across the second and third quarters The GU defense held the Tigers to one shot on goal during the quarter and took an 8-2 lead into halftime. 
  • The Hoyas continued their offensive dominance in the third quarter. Tatum Geist found the back of the net at the 8:41 mark to put the Hoyas up 10-2. At the 4:58 mark, Towson ended the Hoya run with a goal from Hannah Delahaye. A minute later, Maley Starr responded for the Hoyas to extend GU's lead 11-3.
  • After a scoreless opening five minutes of the fourth quarter, Driggs found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the evening. The Tigers responded at the 6:35 mark but Driggs would score again to put the Hoyas up 13-4. The Tigers capped off the contest with a final goal at the 2:40 mark to give GU a 13-5 victory. 
Of Note
  • Driggs led the Hoyas in scoring with a career-high five goals while Geist added three. 
  • BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Lily Athanas led GU with a career-high eight draw controls while Emma Driggs added three. 
  • Georgetown outshot Towson 35-18 and held the Tigers scoreless in the second and just three shots in the third.
  • Leah Warehime made five saves to earn her second win of the season.

  • The Hoyas will return to the Hilltop on Saturday to take on Rutgers in the 2024 home opener at 1 p.m.
