STORRS, Conn. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell to the No. 15/14 UConn Huskies 85-44 on Friday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Gampel Pavilion. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 16-10 on the season and 6-9 in league play, while the Huskies improve to 22-5 for the year and 14-0 in the conference. 

How it Happened

• The Hoyas jumped out to a lead on a triple by sophomore Victoria Rivera, but UConn answered with a 12-0 run to take the commanding lead.
• The Blue & Gray would not find a way back in the first as the teams ended the quarter with the Huskies on top 27-9.
• Georgetown could not put a run together in the second period, and the Huskies continued to hit, building the lead to as much as 28.
• A 3-pointer from senior Jada Claude and a bucket from graduate student Graceann Bennett sandwiched a UConn three in the final minute as the Hoyas trailed 46-20 at the break.
• Georgetown would not go away in the third quarter as Rivera knocked down a pair of triples, and juniors Ariel Jenkins and Brianna Scott added one apiece to cut the lead to 18.
• UConn scored six quick points to stop the momentum and managed to make it 60-35 after three quarters.
• The comeback never came for the Hoyas in the final period as UConn continued to find the bottom of the net, and get stops on the other end making the final 85-44.

Of Note

• Rivera led the way as the lone Hoya in double figures, tying her career high with 16 points in the contest.
• Bennett added seven points as well as a squad-best five rebounds.
• The Blue & Gray shot 31.4% (16-51) from the field, and Georgetown allowed 49.3% (33-67) shooting by the Huskies.
• GU was outrebounded by UConn 45-28, and Georgetown forced 11 Husky turnovers on four steals.
• Aaliyah Edwards led UConn with 26 points, while Paige Bueckers added 21 in the game.
