Hoyas Sweep Day Two of Furman Invitational

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball continued the Furman Invitational with a dominant 12-4 win over IUPUI, followed by an 8-4 victory over host Furman on Saturday, February 17 in Greenville, South Carolina. The Hoyas now hold a record of 5-4 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas got on the board first, scoring in the top of the first with a single from Maicie Levitt that sent Brooke Rebhan across home plate.
  • IUPUI answered with two runs in the bottom of the first with a stolen base and an RBI.
  • Samantha Miller homered to left center in the top of the second to add another for the Hoyas. A Gabby Park double sent Dayanara Campos back home for another RBI, tying the game at 3-3 going into the bottom of the second.
  • IUPUI tacked on a homerun in what was a quiet third inning for the Hoyas, taking the 4-3 lead.
  • The Hoyas exploded in the fourth inning, adding seven runs in total.
  • Park kicked off the scoring spree by a sac bunt by Claire Turner. Camryn Wincher singled to right field, bringing Gianna Sciulio home. Levitt's fly ball allowed Turner to make it seven for the Hoyas.
  • The scoring continued, with a Stritmatter triple sending Juliana Pall home.
  • Campos homered to center field, adding another 3 RBIs to the Hoya tally, making the score 10-4 Hoyas.
  • IUPUI would not be able to answer in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Hoyas added another two in the top of the fifth off two walks, allowing Abby Kozo and Rebhan to score, and the 12-4 score stood final to secure the Hoya victory.
Hoya Highlights
  • Avery Wissmar took the win from the circle for the Hoyas.
  • Campos hit her first homerun of the season, going 2-for-4 with the homer and a triple.
  • Rebhan continued her red hot start to the season. The freshman now has a hit in six out of her seven games, including three hits for extra bases.
  • Levitt and Campos each had three RBIs in the game, with Turner and Wincher leading the Hoyas with six apiece on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas scored two RBIs in the first inning with a single by Miller sending Wincher and Rebhan across the plate. Hollie Pardini reached first on a fielding error, sending Levitt home to make it 3-0 Hoyas going into the bottom of the first.
  • In the second, Levitt hit a sac bunt to send Turner home, making it 4-0 Hoyas.
  • The third inning was quiet for both teams, with the Hoyas tallying one hit and neither team scoring.
  • Rebhan doubled in the top of the fourth, putting Stefani Murciano on third base. A Wincher ground ball sent Murciano across the plate to make it five for the Hoyas.
  • Furman got on the board with a run off a ground ball in the bottom of the fourth. 
  • The Paladins added another two runs in the fourth off a single.
  • The Hoyas answered with a run in the fifth inning off a Rebhan single which sent Kiaris Alvarado Rojas home, bringing the score to 6-3 Hoyas.
  • Furman tacked on another run in the fifth with a triple. 
  • Neither team was able to score in the sixth. 
  • In the seventh, the Hoyas added another two runs off singles from Murciano and Turner bringing the score to 8-4.
  • Furman was unable to come up with another run, and the Hoyas won 8-4.
Hoya Highlights
  • Julia Parker took the win on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing only six hits in 22 batters.
  • Kayla Dunn had the save, pitching 2.1 innings and notching four strikeouts in only seven batters-faced.
  • Rebhan went 2-for-4 at the plate, tallying a double and an RBI, adding to her already-impressive breakout season.
  • Turner and Wincher each added another RBI for their team-best 7 apiece on the season.

Georgetown will close out the Furman Invitational tomorrow, February 18, with a contest with Towson at 11:30 a.m.
