Hoyas Complete Furman Invitational Sweep with 5-4 Win Over Towson

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball finished the Furman Invitational undefeated after beating Towson 5-4 on Sunday, February 18 in Greenville, South Carolina. The Hoyas now hold a record of 6-4 on the season and have won six straight games.

Statement from Head Coach Pat Conlan

"It was a terrific weekend for us and one that showed what kind of a team we are. It was total team effort. Everyone had a hand in our five wins. We put every part of the game together this weekend. This team fought, stayed composed under pressure and did all of the little things that help you win. So proud of them and can't wait to get back out on the field next week to do it all over again."

How it Happened

  • Georgetown immediately jumped out to an early lead after two Towson errors led to three Hoya runs from Maicie Levitt, Claire Turner and Brooke Rebhan in the top of the first.

  • GU stranded Towson runners on second and third in the bottom of the first, holding the Tigers to only one run in the inning.

  • Dayanara Campos hit a one out double in the top of the second. Stefani Murciano's single advanced Campos to third and Rebhan brought her home to bring the Hoya lead back to three.

  • Towson had the bases loaded with only one out in the top of the second. However, the Blue & Gray made a 3-2-4 double play to end the inning and keep Towson off the board.

  • Towson tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 4-3 ball game.

  • Georgetown recorded their fifth run of the game when Campos third hit of the day brought Gianna Sciullo home, bringing the Hoya lead back to two.

  • In the bottom of the seventh, Towson quickly added a run off a throwing error and had the tying run on third with zero outs. However, Julia Parker came up clutch, not allowing the Towson runner to advance home after striking out two batters and getting another batter to fly out, winning the game for the Hoyas 5-4.

Hoya Highlights

  • From the circle, Kayla Dunn earned her second win of the year while Julia Parker recorded her first save.

  • The freshman, Rebhan has now recorded a run in six straight games and has eight on the year.

  • Georgetown has now won six games in a row. The last time they won six in a row was in 2014 when the team won nine in a row.
