Hoyas Conclude Frost Classic Against Texas A&M CC

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball was defeated 5-4 against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Sunday, February 25, in the final game of the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Hoyas are now 7-8 on the season. 

 

How it Happened

  • Both teams got off to a slow start as neither team scored any runs in the first two innings.

  • In the third inning, Dayanara Campos put Georgetown on the board with a two run home-run to left field.

  • Texas A&M CC answered the home-run with three runs of its own in the bottom of the third.

  • Kayla Dunn struck out four of the seven Islander batters in the fourth and fifth innings. However, a home run in the fifth put the Islanders up 4-2

  • Texas A&M CC added one more run in the sixth, making the game 5-2 Islanders. GU could not find an offensive spark until the seventh inning.

  • The Hoyas had two runners on base with two outs in the seventh, needing three runs to tie.

  • Campos hit a triple, bringing Gabby Park and Emily Strittmatter home, cutting the deficit to only one with a runner on third and two outs. The Hoyas were unable to capitalize on the opportunity as the Islanders took the game 5-4.

 

Hoya Highlights

  • Campos hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season.

  • Campos recorded a career-high four RBIs, giving her a total of 12 on the year.

  • Campos, Park, Strittmatter and Claire Turner all recorded one run in the game.

  • Kayla Dunn threw six strikeouts in the game, tying her most in any game this season.

Georgetown will compete in their last tournament of the season from March 1-3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
