Georgetown Falls to NDSU on First Day of the Purple & Gold Challenge

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball fell to North Dakota State 9-2 in the first game of the Purple & Gold Challenge on Friday, March 1. The Hoyas are now 7-9 on the season. Their match against Murray State, originally scheduled for today, was postponed to Sunday due to weather.

How it Happened

  • North Dakota State opened the game with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

  • In the bottom of the first, Georgetown had runners on first and second after a Camryn Wincher walk and a Dayanara Campos single, but were unable to score any runs.

  • NDSU hit a three-run home run in the third inning to increase its lead to 4-0.

  • With two outs in the bottom of the third, Campos hit a double down the right field line. A walk from Wincher and a single from Levitt gave the Hoyas bases loaded. However, they were again unable to score any runs.

  • Claire Turner gave GU life in the fourth inning, hitting a two-run home run to left field, bringing Abby Kozo home and reducing the deficit to two.

  • NDSU pulled away after a four-run fifth inning. They would tack on their ninth run in the seventh, giving the Bison a 9-2 victory.

Hoya Highlights

  • Turner hit her first home run of the season and the third of her career in the fourth inning.

  • Campos recorded two hits, including a double which was her ninth extra base hit on the season.

  • Kozo tallied her second run of the season.
