Hoyas Fall to No.15 Penn 14-4

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-6) fell 14-4 at USA Lacrosse headquarters to No. 15 University of Pennsylvania (6-0) on Tuesday evening.

ON THE RECORD
"I thought we started strong and the defense played well most of the game. I give a lot of credit to our defense but we had to many turnovers on the offensive side and didn't produce enough opportunities to win the game," - said Head Coach Ricky Fried on the game.

How It Happened
  • Kylie Hazen got the Hoyas on the board first with a goal assisted by Maley Starr at the 11:12 mark. The Quakers responded two minutes later with two goals in under 30 seconds. At the 8:08 mark, Keeley Block extended Penn's lead 3-1 with an unassisted goal. After a scoreless six minutes, Starr landed a goal to bring the Hoyas within one at the end of the first quarter.
  • Penn kicked off the scoring in the second quarter with a goal from Niki Miles after a scoreless opening six minutes of the quarter. At the 8:01 mark, Rileigh Meyer found Emma Gebhardt from across the attack zone to land the Hoyas third goal of the evening. The Quakers continued to grow their lead with three unanswered goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter. At halftime Penn led the Hoyas 7-3.
  • The Quakers controlled the third quarter with five unanswered goals to go up 12-3.
  • After a scoreless opening six minutes of the fourth quarter, Leanna Tsahalis maneuvered through Penn's defense to land a goal for the Hoyas. Penn responded with two goals to give the Quakers a ten goal lead to win the game 14-4.
Of Note
  • Starr led the Hoyas with two points (1G, 1A) while Gebhardt, Hazen and Tsahalis each added a goal.
