Hoyas Fall to Seton Hall 8-4 in Home Opener

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball fell to Seton Hall 8-4 in the first game of the three game series on Friday, March 15, at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 10-14 on the season and 1-3 in BIG EAST play while Seton Hall is 7-11 and 1-3 in league action.

 

How it Happened

  • Both teams started off slow as neither team scored any runs through three innings.

  • Kayla Dunn started off on fire from the circle, throwing five strikeouts in the first three innings.

  • Seton Hall broke the deadlock with a run in the fourth inning. 

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Dayanara Campos tied the game with a single, bringing Brooke Rebhan home from third.

  • Later in the inning, a double from Samantha Miller would bring Kiaris Alvarado Rojas home and Camryn Wincher home after a Seton Hall throwing error, putting GU up 3-1.

  • Seton Hall tallied five runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

  • The Hoyas escaped the sixth inning without letting up any runs after a 5-2-3 double play ended the inning with the bases loaded. However, the Pirates recorded two runs in the seventh to give them a 8-3 lead.

  • Georgetown made a push in the bottom of the seventh to try to come back in the game. A single up the middle from Campos brought Gianna Sciullo home from third to make the score 8-4. 

  • GU was unable to put anymore runs on the board, allowing the Pirates to take the first game of the series.

 

Hoya Highlights

  • Campos tallied two RBIs in the game, marking the fourth time in the last five games she recorded multiple RBIs. 

  • Miller notched two RBIs, giving her eight on the season.

  • Alvarado Rojas, Sciullo, Wincher and Rebhan all recorded one run.

  • From the circle, Dunn threw five strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Georgetown will play Seton Hall tomorrow, March 16 at 1 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy for the second game of the series.
