Hoya Comeback Comes up Short Against Seton Hall

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball's comeback came up short in a 7-5 loss to Seton Hall in the second game of the three game series on Saturday, March 16, at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 10-15 on the season and 1-4 in BIG EAST play while Seton Hall is 8-11 and 2-3 in league action.

 

How it Happened

  • Seton Hall took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after hitting back-to-back home runs.

  • Georgetown answered in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run of their own from Maicie Levitt to tie the game. 

  • Julia Parker struck out two out of four Pirate batters in the second inning.

  • The Hoyas had an opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the second with two outs and bases loaded, but were unable to bring any runners home.

  • Seton Hall broke the deadlock with a run in the third inning. 

  • GU held the Pirates scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings.

  • The Hoyas notched two hits in the fifth inning and had another opportunity with bases loaded, but could not put any runs on the board.

  • Seton Hall scored three runs in the sixth to give them a 7-3 lead. 

  • With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Dayanara Campos singled up the middle bringing Claire Turner home to give GU a run back.

  • Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Gabby Park walked which gave the Hoyas their fifth run of the game.

  • GU could not complete the comeback in the seventh inning, giving the Pirates the win 7-5.

 

Hoya Highlights

  • Levitt hit her second home run of the season in the first inning. Her three RBIs tied her season high.

  • Campos and Park also recorded an RBI. Campos now has 10 RBIs in her last six games.

  • Campos also tallied two runs in the game while Camryn Wincher, Turner and Levitt all scored one run.

  • Wincher, Levitt and Turner all had two hits in the game.

  • From the circle, Parker threw four strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Georgetown will play Seton Hall tomorrow, March 17 at noon at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy for the final game of the series.
