Hoyas Defeat Butler 7-4 in Final Game of the Series

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball defeated Butler 7-4 in the final game of the three-game series on Sunday, April 14 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 11-25 on the season and 2-13 in BIG EAST play while Butler is 19-22 and 8-10 in league action.

How it Happened

  • After a scoreless first inning, Georgetown opened the second with back-to-back singles from Abby Kozo and Camryn Wincher.

  • A passed ball from Butler allowed Kozo to come home for the first run of the game. Hollie Pardini next hit a sac-fly, bringing Wincher home from third to put Georgetown up 2-0.

  • Claire Turner opened the third inning with a leadoff triple. Later in the inning, Dayanara Campos hit a two-run home run to increase the Hoya lead to four.

  • Kozo would tack on another run in the third inning when her single up the middle allowed Maicie Levitt to come home from second.

  • Butler answered with four runs of its own in the fourth inning to cut the Georgetown lead to one.

  • With two outs and bases loaded in the fifth, Kiaris Alvarado-Rojas hit a double to deep left, bringing Campos and Kozo home, putting GU up 7-4.

  • Georgetown prevented Butler from getting on base in the sixth inning.

  • In the top of the seventh, Butler threatened with runners on second and third. 

  • With two outs, Kayla Dunn ended the game by striking out the Butler batter swinging, securing the 7-4 win for Georgetown. 

Hoya Highlights

  • Kozo went 3-3 with two runs and an RBI.

  • Campos hit her tenth home run of the season and third in the series with her two-run home run in the third inning.

  • Turner hit her team-leading third triple of the season. She went 3-4 in the game and scored a run.

  • Alvarado-Rojas notched two RBIs.

  • Levitt and Wincher each recorded a run while Pardini tallied an RBI.

  • From the circle, Avery Wissmar got the win, throwing two strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

  • Dunn secured her second save of the season, throwing three strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched while allowing only three hits and no runs.
