Hoyas Earn Walk-Off 3-2 Win Over St. John's

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball defeated St. John's 3-2 in the first game of the three-game series on Friday, April 19 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 12-25 on the season and 3-13 in BIG EAST play while St. John's is 21-23 and 10-9 in league action.
 

How it Happened

  • In the first game, Georgetown managed to have runners on first and second, but could not advance any further.

  • Julia Parker threw two strikeouts in the second, keeping St. John's off the board in the second inning.

  • St. John's hit a home run in the third inning, giving them a 1-0 lead.

  • Abby Kozo started off the fourth inning with a lead off double. 

  • Later in the inning, Gabby Park hit a double to left field, allowing Kozo to come home, tying the game at one run a piece.

  • Neither team earned any runs in the fifth inning.

  • With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Emily Strittmatter broke the deadlock with a walk, putting Georgetown up 2-1.

  • St. John's tied the game with a run of their own in the top of the seventh.

  • In the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second, Park hit a single up the middle bringing Kozo home from second, securing the 3-2 victory for Georgetown.

Hoya Highlights

  • Park's walk-off RBI single and Kozo's game-winning run secured victory for the Hoyas.

  • Park recorded two hits and two RBIs while Kozo notched two runs, a double and a walk.

  • Camryn Wincher and Strittmatter each got two hits in the game.

  • Strittmatter also tallied an RBI while Stefani Murciano also earned a run.

  • From the circle, Julia Parker earned the win, throwing five strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Georgetown will play the second game of the series against St. John's tomorrow, April 20 at 1 p.m. at Nats Youth Academy.
