Hoyas Fall to St. John's 3-1 in Second Game of the Series

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball was defeated by St. John's 3-1 in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday, April 20 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 12-26 on the season and 3-14 in BIG EAST play while St. John's is 22-23 and 11-9 in league action.
 

How it Happened

  • The game started off slow with neither team able to produce much offense in the first three innings.

  • From the circle, Kayla Dunn started off on fire, striking out seven out of ten batters in the first three innings, including a streak of six strikeouts in a row.

  • St. John's got on the board first with two runs scored in the fourth inning.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Georgetown responded with a run of their own when Gabby Park hit a triple, bringing Abby Kozo home from first base.

  • After a scoreless fifth inning, St. John's added another run in the top of the sixth, giving them a 3-1 advantage.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, Georgetown managed to get bases loaded with only one out, but was unable to bring any runners home.

  • The Hoyas were unable to score any runs in the seventh, allowing St. John's to take the 3-1 victory.

Hoya Highlights

  • Park recorded an RBI and a triple. 

  • Kozo tallied a run and two walks.

  • Dunn threw nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched, tying her season high.

  • Dunn also threw six strikeouts in a row in the second and third innings.

Georgetown will play the final game of the series against St. John's tomorrow, April 21 at noon at Nats Youth Academy.
