WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball was defeated by Providence 7-3 in the first game of the three-game series on Friday, April 26 in Providence, Rhode Island. The Hoyas are now 12-29 on the season and 3-16 in BIG EAST play while Providence is 19-20-1 and 9-10 in league action.

Georgetown opened the game with back-to-back singles by Claire Turner and Emily Strittmatter.

Later in the first inning, Abby Kozo nicked the ball off the bat into play, advancing Strittmatter home from third to put GU up 1-0.

Providence answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first and then added three more runs in the second inning, giving the Friars a 4-1 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, Georgetown scored two runs in the fourth when Strittmatter hit a two out double to left center field, allowing Brooke Rebhan and Hollie Pardini to score.

The Friars added another three runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 7-3.

After no runs were scored in the sixth inning, Georgetown was not able to gather momentum in the seventh, securing the victory for Providence.
