Hoyas Defeat George Washington 2-1

WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball defeated George Washington 2-1 on Tuesday, April 30 in Washington D.C. The Hoyas are now 14-30 on the season while George Washington falls to 24-26. This game marked the final road game for the Hoyas in the 2024 season.

How it Happened

  • The game started off slow offensively as neither team would score any runs in the first two innings.

  • Brooke Rebhan got the Hoyas going with a leadoff single in the third inning.

  • A SAC bunt from Claire Turner and fly-out to right field by Emily Strittmatter allowed Rebhan to advance to third.

  • After a walk from Dayanara Campos, Maicie Levitt put Georgetown on the board with a double off the wall, bringing up both Rebhan and Campos, giving Georgetown a 2-0 lead.

  • From the circle, Julia Parker did not allow a hit in the third or fourth innings.

  • In the top of the fifth, the Hoyas had runners on second and third but were unable to bring any runners home.

  • GW threatened to put points on the board with runners on first and second. However, with two outs in the inning, Julia Parker struck the GW batter out swinging ending the inning.

  • In the sixth, Kayla Dunn came in for relief, throwing a 1-2-3 inning.

  • The Hoyas again had a runner on third base in the top of the seventh, but could not extend their lead. The Hoyas headed into the bottom of the seventh with a 2-0 lead.

  • In the bottom of the seventh, GW managed to get bases loaded with two outs and scored after a passed ball. However, Dunn would strikeout the next batter, securing the 2-1 victory for the Hoyas.

Hoya Highlights

  • Levitt recorded two RBIs, a double and was hit by a pitch.

  • Turner went 2-for-3 with a double.

  • Campos notched a run and was walked twice.

  • Rebhan recorded a hit and a run while Stefani Murciano also got a hit.

Georgetown will return home to compete in their final three-game series of the season against UCONN with the first game being on May 3.
