WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball fell in both games of its doubleheader against UCONN on Friday, May 3 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas are now 14-32 on the season and 4-19 in BIG EAST play while UCONN now holds a record of 29-22 and 15-8 in league action.

How it Happened

UCONN had bases loaded in the top of the first inning, but the Hoyas got out of a jam with a 1-2-3 double play.

The Hoyas got on the board first in the bottom of the first when Abby Kozo hit a single to center field bringing Emily Strittmatter home from third.

From the circle, Julia Parker did not allow the Huskies to get a hit in the second or third innings.

In the bottom of the third, a UCONN error gave the Hoyas runners on second and third with no outs. However, the Hoyas were unable to bring them home.

Parker threw three strikeouts in the fourth inning.

UCONN got on the board with three runs in the fifth inning and then would tack on another run in the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-1, the Hoyas were able to gather some offensive momentum.

With runners on second and third, a UCONN wild pitch allowed Hollie Pardini to score, cutting the deficit to two.

Georgetown would have the tying run in scoring position with only one out, but was unable to tack on any more runs, allowing UCONN to take game one of the doubleheader 4-2.

How it Happened

Kayla Dunn did not allow a UCONN runner on base through the first three innings.

Gabby Park hit a two out double in the second inning for the Hoyas' first hit of the game. However, Georgetown was not able to bring her home.

UCONN scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning.

In the fifth, Kayla Dunn threw her fourth 1-2-3 inning.

Georgetown kept the Huskies off the board in the sixth with a 5-6-3 double play.

UCONN increased their lead to 2-0 when they hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, at the plate, Dunn got a run back for the Hoyas with a single to left center, bringing Kozo home.

The Hoyas had runners on second and third with two outs needing a run to extend the game, but could not advance any runners home, allowing UCONN to win 2-1.
