Hoyas Fall 16-11 to Top-Ranked Notre Dame in NCAA Quarterfinals

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse fell 16-11 to top-ranked and top-seeded Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday. The No. 7/6 Hoyas wrap up the 2024 campaign 13-4 overall after making their 12th NCAA Quarterfinals appearance in program history.

Hoya Highlights How It Happened
  • Notre Dame (14-1) took the early lead, scoring on its first possession just 53 seconds into the game. As both teams settled in, the Fighting Irish added goals at the 7:34 and 6:41 marks to lead 3-1 before Schubert's goal pulled the Hoyas within two at the end of the first quarter.
  • A slow start to the second period had ND lead 4-1 at the 10:43 mark before Carroll responded with just under six minutes to go in the half to pull back with two, down 4-2. The Irish took control from there, scoring three goals in the final 3:38, including one with seven seconds remaining, to take a 7-2 advantage going into the break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the Hoyas struck first with a Vardaro goal 44 seconds into the half. Notre Dame answered right back 49 seconds later before GU made it 8-4 at the 9:52 mark courtesy of Llewellyn's goal. Like the end of the second quarter, the Irish had a late scoring spurt and netted three goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to lead 11-4.
  • In the fourth, both sides traded goals throughout the frame before a late rally from the Hoyas put them in striking distance. Georgetown scored four of the final five goals in the game as Bundy posted all five goals in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Notre Dame Notes
  • Chris Kavanagh had five goals and three assists to lead the Fighting Irish while Pat Kavanagh added three goals and an assist.
  • Will Lynch won 21-of-26 (.807) faceoffs and collected 12 ground balls.
  • Liam Entenmann had eight saves in the win.
Georgetown Notes
  • Bundy's goals give him 158 for his career, passing Daniel Bucaro ('19) for second most in program history.
  • Carroll reached 60 points on the year, just the 17th player to reach the feat at Georgetown
