Hoyas Earn Multiple BIG EAST End of Season Honors

WASHINGTON - After a spectacular 15-win season, Jakes Fellows was unanimously named BIG EAST Player of the Year and Head Coach Freddy Mesmer was named Co-Coach of the Year.

On Fellows winning the award, Coach Mesmer stated, "Jake had an incredible year to say the least. The work he has put in during his three years at Georgetown is exactly why he won this award. The willingness to get better, learn from mistakes and continue to push himself and his teammates past their limits showed this season with the 20 wins on the singles court! I am excited for one more season with Jake and looking forward to seeing what else he can accomplish."

In the spring season, Fellows competed in 22 out of 23 matches, going 20-2 in singles all in the number one position. Fellows also went 13-5 in doubles. Including the fall season, Fellows recorded 27 singles wins and 15 doubles wins over the whole year, adding up to 42 total wins in 53 matches over the 2023-24 season. Fellows earned BIG EAST Men's Singles Player of the Week twice in the 2024 season.

Additionally, Fellows and Zamaan Moledina were unanimously named First Team All BIG EAST.

For Moledina, he went 11-5 in singles competing in the two, three and four positions. In doubles, Moledina went 12-4 primarily competing in the number one doubles position. Moledina earned BIG EAST Men's Doubles Player of the Week once during 2024.

On being named Co-Coaching Staff of the Year, Coach Mesmer said, ""It is an honor for our coaching staff here at Georgetown to be recognized for the hard work this year. Diana Kussainova has helped our program tremendously and we would not be where we are without her passion for the game of tennis and all of the student athletes. David Smith and Risa Nakagawa were also integral parts to the success as volunteer coaches. Without the additional help from our full staff, this would not be possible. Coaching two teams is something not many people can say that they do and both Diana and I take pride in leading our group of men's and women's student athletes at Georgetown."
