Field Hockey Falls 3-0 at AppState

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team fell 3-0 on the road at AppState in the delayed 2024 season opener for the Hoyas. The Hoyas fall to 0-1 on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 2-0.
 
Ella Fahey was impressive in goal, collecting a career-high 21 saves in the game. The sophomore netminder posted five saves in the first quarter, seven in the second, six in the third and another three in the final frame.
 
Georgetown held AppState scoreless through the first 23 minutes of the game before the hosts scored back-to-back goals at the 23:39 and 25:00 minute marks to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Mountaineers added their final goal with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter.
 
The Hoyas managed four shots on target in the game, two from Elena Leahy and one each from Izzy Lee and Sydney Yodh.
 
Charlotte Bosma, Kassie Paul and Hentriette Stegan each scored a goal for AppState while Grace Ball was credited with an assist. Claire Grenis had four saves in the win.
 
The Blue & Gray's initial opener at Davidson on Friday had been declared a no contest after lightning halted the game against the Wildcats at halftime and could not be completed.
 
Georgetown returns to action next weekend in Pennsylvania against Lock Haven on Friday, September 6 and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, September 8.
