WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team fell 5-4 at Towson on Friday afternoon in nonconference action. The Hoyas drop to 1-3 overall while the Tigers improve to 2-3 on the year.
Sophie Towne led the Hoyas with a goal and an assist while
Elena Leahy,
Katherine Malloy and
Colleen Maloney each scored as well.
Kelly O'Connor and
Sydney Yodh were both credited with assists as well.
In goal,
Ella Fahey collected five saves on the day including stopping a penalty stroke late in the game.
Towson scored the first goal of the game at the 14:10 mark in the opening quarter and the 1-0 score would stand through halftime.
The third quarter alone saw seven goals scored between the two sides. Towson struck quickly into the second half and scored 25 seconds into the frame and followed it up with another goal at the 33:29 mark to lead 3-0.
Undeterred, the Blue & Gray scored back-to-back goals within 1:48 of each other to pull within one, down, 3-2, but TU responded less than a minute later at the 38:49 mark to regain a 4-2 lead. Fighting right back, Towne pulled the Hoyas back within one just 59 seconds later but the Tigers netted their final goal with two minutes left in the stanza to take a 5-3 lead going into the final 15 minutes of play.
Georgetown added another goal at the 52:27 mark from Maloney and Fahey stopped Towson's penalty stroke attempt with just over five minutes to play but the Hoyas weren't able to score again.
Kristin Strijdom led Towson with a goal and two assists while Lexi Bove and Anouk Westerink both had a goal and an assist.
Georgetown returns to action on Sunday against Rider in a neutral site game at Towson.
