TOWSON, Md. – Georgetown University's field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision against Rider in a neutral site game at Towson on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 1-4 overall while the Broncs improve to 3-3 on the year.
Lily Jamison and
Emma van der Veen both notched goals for the Blue & Gray while
Elena Leahy and
Sophie Towne each tallied an assist.
In goal,
Ella Fahey collected 10 saves on the day, including five in the fourth quarter.
Rider struck first with a goal at the 8:11 mark but the Hoyas responded 30 seconds later with van der Veen's goal courtesy of a Leahy assist to knot things up at 1-1. The tied score would last the rest of the half.
Coming out of the break, the Broncs scored 1:06 into the third quarter and added another third quarter goal at 37:47 to take a 3-1 advantage.
Georgetown attacked late, eventually scoring a Jamison goal from Towne's assist with under a minute to play, but couldn't find the back of the cage again.
Valeria Perales led Rider with two goals while Olivia Machiavelli had a goal and an assist.
Georgetown returns to action on Friday as it opens BIG EAST play at Villanova in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
