WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team (6-2) went 2-0 in their matches on Friday at McDonough Arena, securing victories over IU Indy and Rider. After dropping the first set of the day, the Hoyas rebounded, winning every set thereafter. The Blue and Gray defeated IU Indy 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25) and swept Rider 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-14). Georgetown will return to McDonough tomorrow at 4 p.m. to close out the DC Showdown against George Washington.
Head Coach AJ Bonetti
"I'm really proud of the way the girls once again showed some resilience having to play two matches in a day. It was great to see some new faces take on bigger roles today. It was a nice start to a big weekend for us and we are excited to get back out there tomorrow. We will enjoy today's victories tonight for sure!"
Kamryn Lee-Caracci
"Our team is really skilled with adapting to new teams, new players and new lineups. We have losses on our side, but that just means there have been opportunities for us to get even better at adapting. Coming up tomorrow, George Washington is going to be really good and really fast, but IU Indy was also really fast, and we were able to figure out their system today. Tomorrow 's going to be a really fun game for us. Coming into conference play, every team that we're going to play is going to be just as intense. As long as we keep the energy that we have, we're going to do a lot of great things."
Vaughan Anoa'i
"We're feeling great after another undefeated day. I think all of us really were intent on bringing the energy, especially after dropping the first set of the day. We really wanted to come back and make sure that coming out against a team like Rider, who, as we discussed in this guiding report, is pretty equal in terms of distribution for their offense and pretty much similar on the defensive end as well. We really wanted to make sure that we were keying in on all of those things that we had been prepared for and just playing our game. Like I've said before, we want to be setting the standard and the expectation for what Georgetown volleyball looks like. I think tomorrow we're definitely hungry for that third win."
Karis Park
"The experience and chemistry that we're building is really going to come into Big East play. It's not just about winning or losing but improving in all aspects of our game and I think we're doing that."
