Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 25 Hoyas and Sharks Play to Draw

WASHINGTON - The No. 25 Georgetown University men's soccer team allowed a pair of second-half goals to play to the 2-2 draw against the LIU Sharks in a nonconference matchup at Shaw Field on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Hoyas move to 2-2-3 on the season, while the Sharks become 3-2-2 for the year.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "It was great to see our young guys come out and do a really good job, the two goals we scored were great goals and David Urrutia scoring in his debut is fantastic. Mitchell Baker also had a really good goal to close the half. But what we have to resolve as a group is how to do the little things to get the result. We're playing great soccer right now, but we're finding ways to tie games we should win and lose games we should tie. We have to focus on fixing those mentality plays and we have to do that quickly as we head to Creighton for our first BIG EAST game."
How it Happened
  • Georgetown held possession for much of the first half but failed to get many shots on target.
  • Midway through, junior Max Viera fired from the right side but hit the crossbar for the Blue & Gray.
  • As the seconds ticked down, it looked like both teams would go into the locker room tied. However, Joe Buck started a play up the left side and found Eric Howard. He sent in a beautiful ball which freshman Mitchell Baker got a head on for his fourth goal of the year and to put the Hoyas up 1-0 going into the break.
  • The Hoyas started a young lineup in the second, and it paid off as freshman David Urrutia scored his first-career goal in the 56th minute.
  • Sophomore Jack Heaps sent a ball in, and freshman Jack Brown flicked it to a charging Urrutia who shot it far post on his left to put the Blue & Gray up 2-0.
  • LIU would make it a one-goal contest in the 68th minute with a header just over the backline to make it 2-1.
  • In the 85th minute, it would be LIU again on a shot to the upper corner tying the contest at 2-2 which would stand as the final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot LIU, 18-9, and had just seven shots on goal to the Sharks' three.
  • The Hoyas were awarded seven corners to LIU's one.
  • Junior Tenzing Manske took the draw in the net with one save in the game, while LIU keeper Eoin Gawronski had five.
  • Baker now has four goals on the season.
