Georgetown Football Hosts Brown in Homecoming Matchup

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team returns to the Hilltop for Homecoming weekend. The Hoyas will face Brown on Saturday, September 21 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Cooper Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas fell to 2-1 on the season after a 40-14 loss to Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Connecticut last Saturday. 
  • Cooper Blomstrom received a Patriot League Honorable Mention for his effort in the matchup. Blomstrom had three quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and five tackles, including a sack for a loss of eight yards and 1.5 tackles for a loss of nine.
  • Blomstrom and Quincy Briggs sit atop the Patriot League in forced fumbles, tallying two apiece through three games. Blomstrom also ranks second in the Patriot League in TFLs with 5.5.
  • On the offensive side, Naieem Kearney led the ground game against SHU with 98 yards on 17 attempts and one touchdown. Kearney also ranks third in the Patriot League and leads the Blue & Gray with 232 rushing yards on 40 attempts and five touchdowns.
  • Mason Gudger currently leads the FCS in kickoff return yardage, averaging 45.5 yards per return.
  • Georgetown's special teams unit leads the Patriot Leagues in yards per kickoff return, averaging 31.9 yards.
ABOUT THE BEARS
  • Brown will open their season against the Hoyas. 
  • Last season, the Bears posted a 5-5 overall record, their best overall mark since 2015 and best Ivy League finish since 2016. 
  • The Bears were picked to finish sixth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll.
  • Four captains will lead Brown in quarterback Jake Willcox, defensive back Isaiah Reed, linebacker Caleb Moorhead and offensive lineman Jack Connolly.
  • Head Coach James Perry is entering his fifth season at the helm of the program. 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Georgetown and Brown are meeting for the seventh time in program history. GU has a 1-5 overall record against the Bears.
  • The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2018 in Providence, Rhode Island. The Hoyas fell 35-7 at Brown Stadium. 
  • In 2014 the Hoyas earned a 17-3 victory over the Bears on Cooper Field.
