WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team fell to the University of Akron Zips 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in league play, while the Zips improve to 4-3-3 for the year and 2-0-0 in the BIG EAST.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
- "Credit to Akron, they're a good team and they started off strong. But that's the main disappointment for the day because for the next 70 minutes I thought we were very good. Their goalie had not just eight saves, but eight great saves, so at the end of the day, the main complaint is the start of the match and the inability just to push one past them. Now we need to move on quickly to Providence. They're one of the top teams in the conference and we need to be a little more lethal in front of the net if we can."
How it Happened
- Akron controlled the game early and had some looks as the Hoya defense settled in.
- Midway through the half, the Blue & Gray began to have spells of possession and generate chances.
- Zip keeper Mitch Budler came up with a pair of saves, but the best chance was a wide-open look from junior Zach Zengue in the middle of the box. His shot was stopped by a sliding block from a Zip defender.
- In the waning minutes of the first half, GU keeper Tenzing Manske was forced to come up with a huge stop to keep it scoreless heading into the half.
- It was Zengue with another good look early in the second half, but his shot to the left post was saved off of the line by an Akron defender.
- On the counter, Akron sent it down the field and managed to get past the Hoya defense to make it 1-0.
- Minutes later, GU looked to have the equalizer on freshman Tate Lampman's header off of a corner. However, the left hand of Budler managed to snag it to get the stop.
- Corner kicks were dangerous for GU when a header from freshman Mitchell Baker was once again saved off of the line by a defender.
- Despite the chances, the Hoyas would not find the tying goal and eventually fell, 1-0.
Of Note
- Georgetown outshot Akron, 17-8, had eight shots on goal to the Zips' two.
- The Hoyas were awarded six corners to Akron's one.
- Manske took the loss in the net with one save in the game, while Budler had eight.
