Georgetown Men’s Basketball Takes On Xavier This Friday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host Xavier on Friday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Capital One Arena and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Blue & Gray enters Friday's contest with an 11-2 record overall and a 2-0 mark in league action following an 83-53 win over Coppin State on Saturday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Saturday, the Hoyas defeated the Coppin State Eagles 83-53 at Capital One Arena. Thomas Sorber led all scorers with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, recording 12 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists for his fourth double-double of the season. Drew Fielder tallied a career-high 20 points on 6-for-7 shooting, went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, and grabbed 13 rebounds for his first career double-double. Malik Mack added 15 points, including three treys, and a career-best 11 assists to notch his first double-double.
  • The game against Coppin State marked the first time in the Cooley era that a trio of Hoyas have recorded a double-double.
  • Epps leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures, averaging 15.9 ppg, good enough to rank 10th in the BIG EAST. Thomas Sorber chips in 15.7 ppg, followed by Peavy (13.2) and Malik Mack (12.5). With all four ranking among the top 30 in scoring in the BIG EAST, Georgetown joins UConn as the two schools to achieve that feat.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass grabbing 8.3 rpg to top the league, followed by Drew Fielder (5.8 rpg) and Peavy (4.5 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense dishing out 4.9 apg with Peavy right behind him with 4.2 apg.
  • Peavy ranks ninth in the country and leads the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.69 pockets per game.
  • Sorber has four double-doubles to his name, tied for third in the league. Against Coppin State, the freshman tallied his fourth game with 20+ points moving him into a tie for ninth for GU freshmen with multiple 20+ games since the 1972-73 season.
  • Defensively, the team ranks second in the league in steals per game (9.2). The Hoyas are forcing opponents to commit 14.69 turnovers per game, which ranks fourth in the conference.
  • In the last set of BIG EAST weekly awards, for his efforts in a 2-0 week that saw wins over Creighton and at Seton Hall, Jayden Epps was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 18.0 ppg on 47.8% (11-23) shooting. The junior went 6-for-11 (54.5%) from downtown while chipping in 3.0 rpg, 2.5 apg and 2.0 spg.
 
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS
  • In its most recent outing, Xavier secured a 94-72 victory over Seton Hall, improving to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play heading into Friday's game. Ryan Conwell led the Musketeers with 22 points, shooting an efficient 7-for-12 from the field. Marcus Foster led on the glass with six rebounds, while Dayvion McKnight and Dante Maddox Jr. paced the offense, dishing out six assists each.
  • Zach Freemantle leads Xavier in scoring averaging 16.9 ppg. Conwell follows up with 16.6 ppg while McKnight chips in 10.8 ppg.
  • Freemantle leads Xavier on the glass with 7.7 rpg, followed by Dailyn Swain (4.9 rpg) and Foster (4.3 rpg).
  • McKnight paces the offense, dishing out 4.8 apg.
  • Xavier is led by Sean Miller in his third season back with the Musketeers after 12 seasons as the head coach at Arizona. Miller was the Xavier head coach previously for five seasons from 2004-09.
