Georgetown Drops Decision at Marquette

MILWAUKEE - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell to the Marquette University Golden Eagles 75-58 on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 10-10 on the season and 3-6 in league play, while the Golden Eagles improve to 13-6 on the year and 5-3 in the BIG EAST.
 
How it Happened
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom opened the scoring, but Marquette would quickly stage a 12-0 run as the Golden Eagles led 14-4 midway through the first quarter.
  • The Blue & Gray struggled to score, and MU continued to build a lead going up by as much as 16.
  • A triple by freshman Jaeda Wilson at the buzzer made it 22-11 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Georgetown managed a small comeback in the second as a tip in from junior Victoria Rivera made it 32-24.
  • However, MU came on strong late in the half with an 8-2 run making it 40-26 in favor of the Golden Eagles at the break.
  • Ransom carried the squad in the third as she scored GU's first nine points.
  • Despite the effort, Georgetown struggled to get stops as the Golden Eagles continued to build the lead.
  • A late 9-0 MU run made it 68-43 after three quarters of action.
  • The Hoyas would not give up, staging an 11-2 run to begin the fourth quarter fueled by six points from senior Ariel Jenkins.
  • Even with the run, Georgetown could not find its way back, eventually falling 75-58.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 25 points, going a perfect 6-6 from the line.
  • Jenkins was dominant down low posting 16 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. She was also 4-4 at the line. 
  • The Blue & Gray shot 31.8% (21-66) from the field, but allowed the Golden Eagles 55.1% (27-49) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by Marquette, 34-33, and forced 21 MU turnovers on 11 steals.
  • Lee Volker scored 20 points to lead the Golden Eagles as one of three players in double figures.
