Sorber Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Peavy Earns Spot on Honor Roll

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's basketball freshman Thomas Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and graduate student Micah Peavy was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the league office in New York on Monday. The awards come after a 1-1 week for GU that saw the Hoyas come from behind to defeat Villanova 64-63 before falling 78-68 at Providence. This is the fifth time this season Sorber has garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.
 
THOMAS SORBER (FRESHMAN / FORWARD/CENTER / 6-10 / 255 / TRENTON, N.J.)
  • In a pair of road games that Georgetown split, Sorber averaged a double-double with 20.0 ppg and 13.0 rpg.
  • In a win at Villanova, his 15 points were fueled by a 9-for-10 performance from the charity stripe while he added 11 rebounds for the double-double.
  • On Saturday at Providence, the freshman matched a career-best 25 points on 10 made field goals to go along with a career-best 15 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
  • For the week, he dished out 3.0 apg while managing 1.5 bpg and 1.5 spg.
  • The Trenton, New Jersey native is the lone leader nationally among freshmen with seven double-doubles to his name.
  • Sorber has earned the recognition for the fifth time this season, previously garnering the honor on Jan. 6, Dec. 2, Nov. 25 and Nov. 11.
 
MICAH PEAVY (GRADUATE STUDENT / GUARD/FORWARD / 6-8 / 220 / CIBOLO, TEXAS)
  • In a 1-1 week for Georgetown, Peavy led the Hoyas in a pair of games, averaging 25.5 ppg on 60.0% (21-35) shooting.
  • His 24 points, aided by a career-best six 3-pointers, helped the Hoyas in a come-from-behind win at Villanova.
  • He followed up that offensive output with a career-high 27 points on 12-for-19 shooting at Providence.
  • He grabbed 3.0 rpg over the week while dishing out 1.5 apg and picking 1.5 pockets per game.
  • This is the second time Peavy has earned BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition after picking up the nod on Dec. 2. It is the fifth honor roll recognition for the Blue & Gray this season.

Georgetown returns to action on Tuesday, January 28 as the Hoyas host No. 20 St. John's in the nation's capital. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1 with John Fanta calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall providing analysis.
