WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team fell 66-41 to the No. 15/14 St. John's Red Storm on Tuesday evening. With the setback, GU slides to 13-8 on the season and 4-6 in BIG EAST play while St. John's improves to 18-3 on the year with a 9-1 mark in league action.

ON THE RECORD
"But what I can say is, we're at a point here where you have to continue to inspire your guys and lift them up. It's not the end of the world. So for us, it's a breaking point as far as how much we want to compete." - Head Coach Ed Cooley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Malik Mack was the lone Hoya in double figures, tallying a game-best 13 points on a 4-for-9 performance from the floor. He tallied five rebounds and dished out a squad-best three assists.
  • Thomas Sorber was the leader on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds on the night. Sorber added four steals for the Blue & Gray.
  • Georgetown struggled from the field, managing 24.6% (14-57) shooting from the field.
  • St. John's narrowly outrebounded the Blue & Gray, 39-37.

No. 15 ST. JOHN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond each tallied a game-high 13 points to lead a quartet of St. John's players in double figures.
  • Aaron Scott and RJ Luis Jr. each added 10 points apiece.
  • Scott and Ejiofor each grabbed nine boards to lead SJU on the glass.
  • St. John's shot 48.3% (28-58) from the field.
  • The Red Storm forced 16 GU turnovers on 12 steals while committing 14 turnovers of their own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Storm got off to a hot start, reeling off 11 unanswered before a Caleb Williams triple got the Hoyas on the board. St. John's knocked down another triple to take a 14-3 lead at the first media timeout.
  • SJU kept its foot on the gas, taking a commanding 30-point advantage late in the first half. However, Malik Mack tallied nine points in the final 2:41 of the frame as Georgetown went into the locker room trailing 47-21.
  • The Hoyas came out more in tune in the second half, tallying a quick eight off Sorber buckets followed by a Drew Fielder triple and a Mack free throw. The Hoyas were getting stops on the other end, holding St. John's scoreless for nearly four minutes of action.
  • The Blue & Gray kept chipping away but with eight unanswered fueled by treys from Fielder and Mack followed by a Micah Peavy dunk to close the gap to 16 (53-37). Trading points, another Peavy bucket followed by a Sorber free throw pulled GU within 15, but that's as close as the Hoyas would get, falling 66-41.
