WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University volleyball team defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles, 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-5), on Friday night at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. With the win, GU improves to 12-10 and 5-4 in BIG EAST play on the season while the Golden Eagles slide to 12-7 and 6-3 in league play.
The short-staffed Hoya squad came out strong, claiming the opening set, their first set victory over Marquette since November 15, 2019. The Golden Eagles responded by taking the next two sets, but Georgetown battled back in a thrilling fourth set. The Hoyas strung together a pair of 6-0 runs to force a decisive fifth set, marking just the second five-set match in the series history. Georgetown carried that momentum into the final set, surging ahead to secure the program's first win over Marquette since September 26, 2010.
