Hoyas Defeat Revolutionaries in Crosstown Battle

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team defeated the George Washington University Revolutionaries 79-50 on Friday evening at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-2 overall, while the Revolutionaries drop to 1-4 on the year.

Head Coach Darnell Haney
  • "We had a big sense of togetherness tonight. I think we had some people step up, having 50 points off the bench, that's huge. I have never seen anything like that. But I'm just proud of our group, in that second quarter and a little bit of that third quarter, they started to make a run. And we withstood the run, and we executed our stuff, we defended and we got out of that foul trouble. So I was just proud of them for that, getting out of that lull. Overall, I liked our focus."
How it Happened
  • After missing two games due to injury, graduate student Brianna Scott made her mark in the first minute with five quick points.
  • Midway through the quarter, the Blue & Gray managed an 11-2 run to build the 21-9 advantage.
  • The solid play of sophomore Khadee Hession and junior Cristen Carter held off the Revolutionaries as the Hoyas led 27-16 after one quarter of action.
  • Graduate student Laila Jewett opened the second quarter with a triple before sophomore Indya Davis added six-consecutive free throws and a layup.
  • Despite leading by as much as 20 at one point, fouls proved to be the downfall for the Hoyas who allowed GW back in the game with an 11-3 run to end the half.
  • At the break, Georgetown led 41-31.
  • The Blue & Gray sent GW to the line early in the second half as the Revolutionaries cut the lead to five, 43-38.
  • The work of Carter in the paint built the lead back up as she scored six quick points to move back to a double-digit advantage as the Hoyas led 60-44 at the end of the third.
  • Georgetown opened the fourth with a 7-0 run and never looked back as the Hoyas cruised to the 79-50 victory.
Of Note
  • Davis led the way as one of three Hoyas in double figures with 14 points and three steals.
  • Carter managed 13 points and a 7-7 performance at the line, while junior Khia Miller added 11.
  • Sophomore Summer Davis and senior Victoria Rivera led GU on the glass with six rebounds apiece.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 44.6% (25-56) from the field, and Georgetown allowed just 37.2% shooting (16-43) by GW.
  • GU outrebounded George Washington 33-25, and Georgetown forced 24 Revolutionary turnovers on 15 steals.
  • Sara Lewis scored 16 points as the lone GW player in double figures.
