WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team built a lead and never looked back as the squad defeated the Elon University Phoenix 93-57 on Monday evening at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-2 overall, while the Phoenix drop to 2-3 on the year.

"I'm so proud of our group tonight, it was a total team effort. We faced some adversity in the third quarter, and we persevered through it. I was happy with our job on the glass, I thought we did a great job rebounding the basketball, and we'll need to continue to do this and continue to flourish. Overall, it was a team effort. We had 15 assists on 29 made baskets, our defense was there most of the time. We are going to celebrate this one tonight, and then tomorrow we'll need to get ready for Towson on Wednesday."

How it Happened
- It was close throughout much of the first quarter as the Phoenix kept it a two-possession game for much of the period.
- Looking at a four-point advantage with four minutes to go, the defense went to work and a 5-0 run on the other end helped the Blue & Gray to take the 21-12 lead into the second quarter.
- Elon opened the second with a jumper, but from that point on the game belonged to Georgetown.
- Seven quick points from sophomore Khadee Hession sparked a 19-3 run for the Hoyas as the squad held the commanding 40-17 lead.
- GU would lead by as much as 28 at multiple points as halftime neared, and even a 5-0 Elon run in the final seconds didn't make a difference as the Hoyas went into the break ahead 52-29.
- Elon would get it under 20 early in the third, but success at the free throw line by the sophomore trio of Hession, Destiny Agubata and Summer Davis was too much as the squad put together an 18-6 run spanning the final six minutes of the quarter.
- The Hoyas would continue on cruise control in the fourth as the squad won 93-57.
Of Note
- Hession led the way as one of five Hoyas in double figures with 13 points, while senior Victoria Rivera managed 12.
- Graduate student Laila Jewett, Agubata and Davis all tallied 11 points in the contest.
- There was balance on the boards as four different Hoyas pulled down an impressive seven.
- Jewett managed four assists, and Rivera tallied a trio of steals.
- The Blue & Gray shot 45.3% (29-64) from the field, and Georgetown allowed just 34.8% shooting (23-66) by Elon.
- GU outrebounded Elon 54-30, and Georgetown forced 17 Phoenix turnovers on nine steals.
- Quinzia Fulmore scored 12 points as one of two Elon players in double figures.
