WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team was hot from downtown and used that momentum to defeat the Towson University Tigers 94-67 on Wednesday afternoon in a pre-Thanksgiving matchup at McDonough Arena. Georgetown set a new program record with 14 3-pointers in the contest. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 5-2 overall, while the Tigers drop to 4-3 on the year.
Head Coach Darnell Haney
"It was a heck of a performance today, we shot the ball extremely well. At times in the second half, we had some mental lapses which we'll need to clean up for next week. This is a good way to enter Thanksgiving break, we need to regroup and get our minds right so we can go into conference play ready to go. I'm excited about this group, we had a great defensive effort for about three quarters and I'm excited about our growth and how we're starting to come together and gel."
How it Happened
- Georgetown opened the game on a 15-2 run fueled by a pair of triples from graduate student Laila Jewett.
- Towson would get hot from beyond the arc, and cut the advantage to five.
- However, a late 11-2 Hoya run made it 28-14 at the end of the first quarter.
- Midway through the second quarter, Towson cut the advantage to nine and had some momentum.
- Senior Victoria Rivera took matters into her own hands as she hit a quartet of triples in Georgetown's 17-2 run and the Blue & Gray pulled away.
- Another 3-pointer from Brianna Byars at the buzzer gave Georgetown the 55-34 lead at the break.
- The Hoyas started the second half with a quick 6-0 run and never looked back.
- Despite fouls sending the Tigers to the line, the Blue & Gray maintained a 25-point advantage throughout the stanza and led 78-49 at the end of the third quarter on another triple from Jewett as she was sitting at a perfect 5-5 at that point.
- Despite the large deficit, Towson didn't go away and made a bit of a run in the fourth quarter to pull within 18.
- Rivera stopped the run with the squad's record-setting 14th triple of the game and the Hoyas went on to win 94-67.
Of Note
- Rivera led the way with her first 20-point performance of the season going an impressive 6-7 from beyond the arc to tie her career high in triples.

- Sophomore Summer Davis rounded out those in double figures with 11 points, including a pair of triples as well as an impressive five steals.

- GU outrebounded TU 34-30, and Georgetown forced 19 Tiger turnovers on 12 steals.
- India Johnston scored 17 points as the lone Towson player in double figures.
- The record of 14 3-pointers broke the previous record of 13 which had happened on two previous occasions (vs. Seton Hall, 3/1/10; at Maryland, 3/22/11).
